In-home swim lessons available all year round!
Ages 6+
In this class, your child will be learning the basics to swimming while building strength through practice. No prior experience is necessary for this class. Your child will develop a positive attitude in and around water while learning to have fun safely. Aquatic skills are introduced and practiced through variety and repetition, and they begin to develop positive attitudes about water and water safety.
Some of the skills students will be working on include: buoyancy skills, back and front floating, gliding, opening eyes underwater, rhythmic breathing, bobbing and monkey crawls. They will use a kick board and pool noodle to help them develop their water buoyancy and build their swimming muscles. Your child will become comfortable swimming across deeper water for short distances. They will learn how to safely exit and enter the water from all ends of the pool including pulling out from the deep end. Instructors teach your child water rescue and safety topics that will help them make smart decisions around water.
In Dolphin 2, your child will push their basic knowledge of swimming further by gaining skill through repetition and practice. At this point, students will no longer be using pool noodles and kick boards. Students will begin to perform previously taught skills from Dolphin 1 at a more advanced level (longer times, distances, deeper water), as well as beginning stroke development.
Instructors will teach students the basics of the Front Crawl, Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke. Students should be comfortable swimming 3-5 yards across open deep water by the end of this course and on their way to being a strong and safe swimmer. This class will lay the foundation to learn competitive strokes in the next level. Students also continue learning water rescue and safety topics that will help them make smart decisions around water.
As a level 3 Dolphin, students will run through rescue scenarios and practice with pool rescue equipment such as the life ring buoy and shepherd’s hook. They will learn and practice survival floating, treading water for longer times, and surface dives.
They will continue practicing their competitive stroke development such as the Front Crawl, Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke. Students will learn the Back Crawl and the basics of the Breaststroke. After completing this class, they will have achieved their basic water competency skills for a pool environment.
In this class, students will be focusing on stroke development and increasing endurance. They will learn to swim greater distances and become proficient in swimming all 6 competitive strokes. In addition to improving on the strokes learned in level 3, they will be perfecting the Breaststroke and learning the Butterfly. Students will also learn the open wall turn and will be given a brief introduction on basics of headfirst entries including seated and kneeling dives.
