Tadpole 1

In this class, you and your child will be together in the pool. Your instructor will be teaching you how to work with your child in the water. It is important to continue to practice the skills taught in the class with your child until they master them. Your child will be learning some of the basics of swimming while building strength through practice. Adults will learn how to safely interact with their children in the water. This includes appropriate support techniques, as well as how to encourage activity in the water through active participation. Your child will receive an introduction to basic water skills that will lay the foundation for learning to swim.

These are just a few of the things we will be working on: back floats, entering and exiting the water, brief water submersions, monkey crawls, water acclimation, buoyancy, wall pull outs, and gliding. The main goals of this class are to increase children’s confidence in the water, and reduce the risk of drowning. Parents will also be taught water safety topics and skills that will prevent drowning or injury.

Tadpole 3

In this class, it is optional for you to be in the pool with your child. Your child will be perfecting the basics of swimming and building strength through practice. This class will prepare them for what’s to come in the Shark classes and will challenge your child to become the best swimmer in their age group!

Students will work on swimming unassisted without their pool noodle or kick board, submerging and rhythmic breathing. They will expand on some basic water skills they already know and build their muscle memory and buoyancy skills further while perfecting their back float. Most children will be able to swim across open water for short distances upon completion of this class. They will be gaining more skill at underwater swimming and using goggles. Children will also be taught important water safety topics and skills that will help keep them safe around water.
